The Chennai Corporation has revamped the anytime payment machine (ATPM) for payment of property tax in its Pulianthope zone.
The facility introduced in 2009-2010 was not in use for a few months. It has started working recently and another new ATPM would be installed in Tondiarpet zone shortly. The ATPMs are useful for accepting payments of property tax bills of low value, an official of the Chennai Corporation said. Large numbers of assessees who do not have a bank account or cheque book reside in localities in the Pulianthope and Tondiarpet zones. There are 17,000 property tax assesses with low value property tax demand in Tondiarpet zone. The ATPM touch screen facility gives the assessee the option of paying the full amount of property tax, including arrears or remitting a part of the total amount of property tax demand. The minimum amount payable through ATPM would be the half yearly tax demand for an assessee. The touch screen would display all the details including the division number, bill number, assessee name and property tax demand including tax arrears.
