Action initiated against drug dealers

Action has been initiated against some wholesale drug dealers in Chennai and Kumbakonam for dealing in surgical items without a valid drug licence and maintaining expired stock.

Of the 14 wholesalers inspected in Chennai, one was found dealing in surgical items without a valid drug licence. Syringes and needles worth Rs.2 lakh were seized. Two dealers were found having expired stocks and cosmetic items without proper label. The items were confiscated and produced before the George Town Court. Six dealers were found contravening Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945 and necessary action was initiated against them.

Entire stock seized

In Kumbakonam, one wholesaler was found maintaining stock without proper purchase voucher. The entire stock worth Rs.50,000 was seized and produced before the Judicial Magistrate. Action was initiated against three wholesalers for contravening Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945.

In Thirutottiyur, the inspectors seized drugs worth Rs.8,000 from a clinic for keeping them without valid licence, according to an official press release.
