A music series for youth, NRI launched

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on Thursday launched a twin celebrations music series as part of its platinum jubilee celebrations.

At the inauguration on Thursday, Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra chairman, L. Sabaretnam said the series would encourage youngsters who do not get a chance in evening slots.

Artistes in the age group of 18 to 25 have been accommodated in the series. As many as 40 youngsters and NRIs will perform from December 26 to January 12.

Artistes will also get financial support by the creation of an endowment, said N. Anantha Padmanabhan, managing director of NAC Jewellers.

Treasurer of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, V. Vaidyanathan stressed the need for conducting programmes, “with a lot of corporate support.”

“Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan will be conducting cultural programme throughout the year. Entry will be free. The main auditorium is being renovated to make it the best in the city. Eighty per cent of the work has been completed with the best acoustics available in the world. The work on the 500-seat facility will be completed in one month,” said K.N. Ramaswamy, director of Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra.

“The auditorium will be senior citizen-friendly and have easy access for persons with disabilities. One entire row will be allotted for persons with disabilities,” he said.

A carnatic vocal concert by Shankar Ramani was also held on the occasion.
