Students of Tamil Nadu Government Dental College will now be able to access international journals.

Launching the ‘e-library’ initiative on the college campus, director of medical education V. Kanagasabai said it was imperative for young medical and dental students to keep themselves updated on scientific research work done across the world.

“It is more important that teachers who graduated many years ago know about recent advancements too. With everything available on the internet, students are clued in when they come to class.”

Dr. Kanagasabai said the number of students is set to increase this year. Nearly 32 posts, mainly for faculty members, have been created to assist students, he said.

The college is also implementing its continuing dental education programme on implantology.

“Knowledge of implants has become very important for students these days. Since it is not part of the curriculum, students go for extra courses to learn the techniques which will not be required now,” C. Sabari Girinathan, associate professor and coordinator of the programme, said.
