A 25-year old electrician jumped to his death from the tenth floor of an IT office in Kandanchavadi on Sunday afternoon.

According to the police, he may have taken the extreme step after his family opposed his relationship with a girl.

Naveen Kumar (25), son of Ayyakannu, hailed from Arakkonam district. He had an engineering degree in electrical and electronics. Seven months ago, he was appointed as a sub-contractor in charge of the maintenance of an IT building in Kandanchavadi.

Taramani police inspector, Jayakrishnan, said Naveen had fallen in love with a girl who worked in the housekeeping department of the IT firm.

“On Sunday morning, he seemed to have talked to his parents about his intention to marry the girl. His parents did not approve of the match,” the policeman said.

Later in the afternoon, he was working on the tenth floor of the IT building. “He jumped from there all of a sudden. His phone was found at the spot from where he jumped. Call records showed he had last contacted his uncle and the girl,” said the inspector.
