The Government Railway Police arrested a 19-year old student for allegedly perpetrating a bomb hoax on April 27. According to police, around 6.40 p.m. the Chennai city police control room received an anonymous threat call. The caller said that an explosion would occur at Egmore Railway Station.
Acting on it, around 200 policemen including the bomb and dog squads were pressed into service and the station was thoroughly checked.
Seema Agarwal, DIG, Railways, formed a special team headed by V. Ponramu, deputy superintendent of police, Egmore, to nab the accused. The team arrested one Harisha (19) of Kuruparahalli, Bangalore. During investigation, it was found that he is a third-year-diploma student at a private polytechnic in Tambaram.

He is also allegedly in the habit of using drugs. On April 24, he is believed to have robbed a woman of her mobile phone and laptop in Vandalur. He made a number of calls to 108 and the bomb threat call to 100. He was arrested on May 3 in Villivakkam from his relative’s house and two mobile phones including the one used to make the calls and a laptop were recovered.
