14 hurt as lorry, van collide

Fourteen people were injured when the van in which they were travelling collided head-on with a container lorry in Puthur village near Uthukottai in Tiruvallur district on Wednesday evening. The van, carrying employees of a garment manufacturing unit in Poonamallee, was on its way to drop them home. The lorry was on its way to Tiruvallur from Uthukottai when the accident took place around 6 p.m. Thirteen women and R. Prakash (35), the driver, were hurt. They were taken to hospital and are out of danger.

Engineer injured in attack

CHENNAI: A 53-year-old engineer, working with the construction wing of Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, was stabbed in Adambakkam on Wednesday.

Police said, Kumar, the victim left his home on Ekambara Dafedar Street in Adambakkam around 9 a.m. While he was waiting for an autorickshaw, two men on a motorcycle stabbed him.

Local residents took Kumar a hospital. private hospital nearby from where he was shifted to another hospital in Manapakkam. Police said the motive behind the attack was not known immediately. A case has been registered and probe is on.
