Commuters using the Chennai Metro Rail may now purchase a travel card for Rs.100.

Half of the amount will be a refundable deposit, which will be paid back on returning the card, and the remaining will be deducted for every ride.

The card will be handy for passengers who want to avoid standing in queue or do not plan to take the Metro every day. What’s more?

People using the travel cards get a 10 per cent discount on fares.

A Chennai Metro Rail Limited official said passengers would have to pay Rs.100 every time they recharged the card at ticket counters or vending machines at the stations.

“For regular travellers, we have provided the option for a maximum top-up of Rs.3,000. This card will be valid for one year,” the official said.
