A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)-based stove can be made to work in a cleaner and healthier way using indigenous technology, said Hari Rao, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax.
He was speaking here on Sunday at an event where an LPG stove for industrial use based on a technology he has patented was launched.
The stove has a ceramic burner that turns orange-red when it is switched on. The stove produces uniform heat like charcoal. The temperature of the heat produced can be controlled and a timer could be added for it to switch off after a time is pre-set for the stove.

It has no flames, no smoke, is carbon-free, leaves no soot, is healthier and cooks food faster than the conventional burners.
The stoves are manufactured in India by Agnisumukh, a Bengaluru-based company, which has similar stoves for domestic use and is waiting for clearance on product standards before launching it.
Mr. Rao narrated the sequence of events that led to designing the stove. He said he was driven to follow his passion to cook as he was extremely disheartened with the bitter politics at work.

Twice, in 2008 and 2010, he submitted his resignation.
At one point, his morale at work was so low that he thought of giving up work and selling dosas for a livelihood. That was the time when he studied stoves and felt that there was a need for a non-polluting stove and found a technology that he has got patented.
