City Police Commissioner N.S. Megharik has suspended Channammanakere Acchukattu police inspector and head constable for failing to take immediate action against a rowdy-sheeter and cab driver, who allegedly abducted a young woman and attempted to rape her.

The accused Akshay, who has since been arrested, abducted the young woman from outside her paying guest accommodation in Katriguppe on April 23.

Sources said that inspector Sadashivaiah and head constable Ramachandra did not take any action. The reason they cited for the same was that the victim has not filed a complaint.

However, the victim maintained that though she filed a complaint, the police, who visited the spot and analysed the CCTV footage, refused to initiate any action. They swung into action only after the incident came to light through the media and arrested the accused.

Taking serious note of the issue, Mr. Megharik ordered a probe and suspended the duo on charges of dereliction of duty. It is said that the two police officials had also failed to appraise their senior officials about the incident. It is also being alleged that they had colluded with the owner of the paying guest accommodation to bury the incident.
