The Bangalore Rural district police on Wednesday arrested a 23-year-old woman and her boyfriend for killing her husband on the outskirts of the city.

The accused, Roopashree, was married to Suresh (32), a labourer; the couple has a five-year-old daughter.

Police said the couple, who had a love marriage, were in a happy marriage till about six months ago, when Suresh invited his friend Ravi home and introduced him to his wife. This is believed to have soon turned into an affair. Fearing that their relationship would be exposed, the duo decided to eliminate Suresh, the police said.

The two hatched a plan and on September 16, they took Suresh to the banks of river on the pretext of performing a ritual for the well-being of the couple. Knowing fully well that Suresh couldn’t swim, they pushed him into the water, police added. The incident came to light when Roopashree approached the police two days later to file a missing person complaint, after being pressed to do so by her in-laws.

The T. Madanayakanahalli police zeroed in on her as a suspect. Upon verifying her mobile call records, they learnt about the affair and the gruesome murder.
