Water purification units in 14 villages of Kolar

The Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL), a central government undertaking, will be setting up water purification units in 14 villages of Kolar taluk.

Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra announced this on Thursday while receiving documents of an ambulance provided by the corporation to the District SNR Hospital here.

The PGCIL has provided the ambulance worth Rs. 8.5 lakh under its corporate social responsibility initiative. The corporation has provided ambulances in Kolar, Tumakuru and Dharwad districts.

The hospital will hire the driver and other staff required to provide service to the rural people, Mr. Thrilokchandra said. Since the grid was located in Kolar taluk, the corporation was requested to provide more facilities to the villages in the taluk.

According to Mr. Thrilokchandra, priority will be given to villages with no access to potable, clean water. Such villages will be identified in a week’s time and tender will be called to install the units, he said and added that the units will be set up at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore.

District administration has approached some other companies for installation of water purification units in other parts of the district, wherever necessary.
