Residents of Someshwara Nagar 9th Cross, where an under-construction building stands precariously tilted over adjoining buildings, staged a protest against the proposed demolition work by the civic agencies after one person was injured when a portion of the wall of the building collapsed on him on Tuesday.

Though Krishnappa, a neighbour, escaped with minor injuries, residents protested against the demolition alleging that Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is not taking precautionary measures.

Senior BBMP officials along with the officials of the Revenue Department rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors, promising compensation to the owner of the damaged house.

Meanwhile, Fire and Emergency Services officials continue the operations to retrieve the body of Nagamma (45), which was stuck under a pillar of the building, whose ground floor caved in on Monday, killing two labourers.

Nagamma, a native of Manvi in Raichur, had come to the city with her three children in search of a job. While her three children, who are staying with her, managed to escape, she was buried under the debris.

The Siddapura police continue to track down Mohammed Saleem, the building owner, who is missing with his family members.
