Embarrassed by the chemistry question paper leakage twice, the Department of Pre University Education (DPUE) has been making unprecedented preparation ahead of the re-examination on April 12.
The department, along with the Criminal Investigation Department, which is probing the case, has been putting up a joint effort to conduct the re-examination smoothly.
The question papers, which were printed outside the State, had been kept under heavy police security since the time they were brought into Karnataka. They were dispatched from the DPUE on Sunday morning to various centres. Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar is learnt to have personally supervised the process at the department.

The question papers have been provided with police escort in transit, a first time. Not just that. Those transporting the papers have been barred from using their mobile phones. However, most of the security detail is closely guarded for fear of sabotage.
The question papers deposited at various treasuries, said to be the weakest link in the leakage, have been kept under tight vigil.
Acting on the recommendation of the CID, the Revenue Department has installed CCTV cameras temporarily at all 187 treasuries in the State. The CCTV feed is being monitored live.

A senior CID official said they had also recommended a slew of security measures as to when and how the question papers must be opened on the day of the re-exam. Even teachers who set the question papers have been kept incommunicado and under tight police security.
Meanwhile, the CID sleuths said that a special team has been formed to monitor the situation across the State. “We are now in touch with a large student community, who are our best informers,” an official said.
Not just that, many of those suspected to be involved in the paper leak and those who bought and proliferated the question paper during the earlier exams have been kept under strict watch.
