A tip-off by a resident of a working women’s paying guest facility at Shantinagar alerted the Wilson Garden police to the lax security on the premises.

A senior official from police station said he got a call on his mobile phone from a woman on October 3, who claimed that a male intruder had broken into the PG accommodation the previous night and molested two female residents before escaping. “She also alleged that the security at the PG was lax, that the CCTV cameras were not working, and the owner was not responsive,” the official said.

A team of women police officials visited the PG accommodation where around 200 working women stay and inquired with all the residents. However, no one came forward with a complaint or details of the intruder. A spot inspection revealed that security at the facility was indeed lax.

A notice has been issued to the owner instructing him to install CCTV cameras and have round-the-clock security. “We have not registered a case as nobody came forward and there is no confirmation of the intrusion itself. But we are open to registering a case if anybody comes forward,” the official said.
