April 27, 2018 12:17 am | Updated 12:18 am IST - Bengaluru

The police have taken up a case against Mahila Empowerment Party national (MEP) president Nowhera Shaik after she was caught with ₹3.94 lakh unaccounted for cash at HAL airport on Sunday.

According to Kushalappa D.T., assistant nodal officer, HAL subdivision, who had raised the alert, Ms. Shaik had come from Tirupati in a private aircraft. In his complaint to the HAL police, Mr. Kushalappa said he had searched her belongings and found ₹3.94 lakh in her handbag. She allegedly refused to divulge details of the source of the money. As the election code of conduct is in place, officials seized the cash and handed it over to the jurisdictional HAL police for further investigation. “We have taken up a case under Section 98 of the Karnataka Police Act (possession of goods or anything which there is reason to believe is stolen property, or property fraudulently obtained),” said a police officer.
