Security personnel hand them over to police

BMRCL security personnel and staff caught two men walking inside a tunnel at Majestic after entering the underground station without a ticket. Namma Metro officials handed them over to the Upparpet police who booked them for trespassing.

The incident took place on May 15 during peak commuting hours at 7.35 p.m. The station controller, in his complaint to the local police, said that the duo trespassed into the underground station and made their way to platform number 4 of the Green Line (Yelachenahalli to Nagasandra).

They walked into the tunnel and headed towards Sampige Road. They had barely covered around 100 feet before security staff caught up with them and brought them back to safety.

The accused have been identified as Yadhuveer, 21, from Chamarajanagar district and Shashidhara, 20, from Dharwad. “One of them claimed that they got inside the tunnel to smoke,” said a police official.

As per the rules, passengers can cross the yellow line at metro stations only to board trains. Venturing beyond the platform is dangerous. The BMRCL website states that passengers have to alert staff if any of their belongings fall on to the tracks. The BMRCL has a third rail — an electric traction system to power trains — making it dangerous for passengers to venture beyond the platform.
