The police have arrested two men for allegedly molesting a software engineer on May 9 at Jeevan Bima (J.B.) Nagar.

However, no action has been taken in the second case where the victim had alleged that she was molested by another gang on the same night, and her male friend attacked, allegedly in HAL police station limits while she was returning from J.B. Nagar police station. The J.B. Nagar police had allegedly refused to take her complaint, after which she had approached the Police Commissioner’s office.

The victim had given the J.B. Nagar police the registration number of the scooter used by the two men who waylaid her on May 9 around 2 a.m. when she was returning home after dinner at Indiranagar. The police traced the vehicle and arrested Billal Hussein, 23, and Ali Ahamed, 28, both residents of Nagarbhavi. Ajay Hilori, DCP (East), said both the men confessed to the crime.

But the J.B. Nagar police said the second incident had not occurred in their limits. The HAL police, on the other hand, said they had no complaint about the incident.

Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar said, “I have directed southeast division police to take her statement, register a case in HAL police station and take up its probe. We will arrest those in the wrong.”

He also said he was yet to receive the inquiry report by the DCP (East) on the lapses at the police station over allegations that the victim was turned away without registering her complaint. Stringent action would be taken against officials once the report comes, he said.
