City police busted a gang in Cottonpet trying to sell cruzeiros, the Brazilian currency that was withdrawn in 1993.
Police recovered 131 notes of cruzeiros with a face value of 100,000 each from Mohammed (56) and Mubarak (36), from Davanagere. The two men claimed that each note cost Rs. 21 lakh in Indian rupees and they were selling it off for Rs. 13 lakh as they were in need of money. A senior CCB official said that they would be sending the notes to the Reserve Bank of India to ascertain their authenticity.
In October 2014, police had busted a four-member gang trying to sell cruzeiros near Cubbonpet .
