Three killed in accidents

Three persons, including two senior citizens, were killed in separate accidents in different parts of the city.

A 25-year-old motorcycle rider was killed on the spot when a speeding truck knocked him down at Gubbi Cross on National Highway 7 on Wednesday. The deceased, Allen Layaskar, a native of Delhi and a resident of Kothanur here, was a manager in a U.K.-based firm.

According to the police, Mr. Allen was on his way to office when the truck collided head-on with his bike. The driver fled the scene after abandoning the truck, police said. The Devanahalli traffic police have registered a case against the truck driver and efforts are on to nab him.

In another accident, 73-year-old Kanthamma, a resident of Gunjur, was killed when an unidentified vehicle knocked her down on Whitefield road. The deceased was walking home after visiting her relatives. Passersby found the profusely bleeding Kanthamma lying on the road and rushed her to hospital where she succumbed . The Whitefield police have taken up a case of hit-and-run.

In a similar incident, 74-year-old Babu, a resident of Ramamurthynagar, was killed on the spot when he came under the wheels of a BMTC bus while alighting at the TC Palya bus-stand in K.R. Puram on Tuesday night. According to the police, Mr. Babu was on his way to church. He sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died. The K.R. Puram traffic police have arrested the bus driver Thippanna, who has been remanded in judicial custody.
