Thithi and its creator, star attractions of BIFFes

Thithi , Kannada film by Raam Reddy, which has won many awards (seven, including two awards at the prestigious Locarno International Film Festival, has become one of the star attractions at the eighth edition of Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes).

The response the film got as the opening movie of the festival was overwhelming, both in Bengaluru and Mysuru, with people queuing up to watch it. So much so, more shows have been promised to those who could not get seats.

Mr. Reddy, who made the film with the assistance of his friend Ere Gowda, was elated with the public response for the film. “The response is beyond my expectations. In fact, the organisers made a video of the screening in Mysuru, which is on YouTube now,” he said.

Mr. Raam, who studied at St. Stephen’s College in Delhi and learnt film-making in Prague is happy. The film has won awards in the competition section of the all the festivals so far and is competing in the Asian Section of BIFFes.

This films, which opens with the death of 101-year-old Century Gowda, revolves around three generations of the same family that resides in a village near Mandya. Several characters in the film have been portrayed by non-professional actors.

“In all probability, the commercial release of the film will be in summer,” Mr. Reddy announced before the screening of the film.
