October 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - BENGALURU:

The Mico Layout police have arrested a man who targeted marriage halls for gold jewellery, after attending the event as an invitee. Police sources said Syed Afsar Ahmed (38), a resident of Pillanna Garden, Tannery Road, was arrested on Sunday following a complaint by Kamal Basha of Ilyas Nagar.

On October 14, Basha’s family held a wedding reception at a hall on Bannerghatta Road and an unidentified guest managed to slip away with gold jewellery weighing 145 grams.

“We examined the CCTV footage and marriage videos to zero in on Syed. Further probe revealed that Syed was involved in similar thefts from marriage halls and was arrested by the High Grounds police in February,” said Rohini Katoch Sepat, DCP (South East). Investigators recovered jewellery worth Rs. 17.5 lakh from Syed. “He was involved in 10 burglary cases in the South East police limits in the city,” Ms. Rohini added.
