Temperature touches 5.8 degree Celsius

The temperature in certain parts of the city dropped to as low as 6 degree Celsius on Friday morning.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the lowest temperature of 5.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Channarayapatna hobli in Bengaluru Rural district.

“The KSNDMC has 10 stations in the city. A few of them recorded a temperature of 6 degree Celsius on Friday morning. The average lowest temperature was 10.6 degree Celsius in Bengaluru Urban,” said G.S. Srinivas Reddy, Director, KSNDMC.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6 degree Celsius and minimum of 13.3 degree Celsius on Friday.

“The KSNDMC has more recording stations in the city compared to the IMD. It can lead to disparities in temperature recordings,” Mr. Reddy added.

Fog delays flights

Bad weather conditions at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) forced suspension of flight services for more than one hour on Friday morning. A statement from the BIAL said that operations were suspended from 7.05 a.m to 8.13 a.m. due to poor visibility. Visibility standby was declared at 6.24 a.m and withdrawn at 10.09 a.m.

The departure of 27 flights and arrival of 15 flights were delayed. Eight flights arriving from various destinations were diverted to Hyderabad and Chennai. Five flights of Indigo, one each from Spice Jet, Air India and Go Air were diverted.

In this winter, the highest number flight diversions were reported on Friday.
