With the arrest of a cab driver, the city traffic police on Saturday claimed to have solved the hit-and-run case in which a 28-year-old businessman was killed near Palace Grounds on Thursday.
Dashrath Singh (49), driver of a cab that ferries passengers to and from the international airport, was arrested for running over Arjun Hari Nair on Ramana Maharshi Road near Gayatri Vihar gate of Palace Grounds around 4 a.m. on Thursday. Nair, a partner in an electronics component manufacturing firm in Electronics City, was crossing the road when he was hit by the car.
“The police used latest technology, including global positioning system (GPS), and visuals from traffic surveillance cameras to crack the case,” Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji said at a press conference here.

Picking up clues from the pieces of glass and plastic found at the crime scene, the traffic police ascertained that an airport taxi was involved, he said. “We then collated data of more than 100 cabs that ran from the airport between 2.30 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Thursday,” Ashok N., inspector, Sadashivnagar Traffic Police Station, said.
The police then zeroed in on Singh's cab by matching the plastic found at the scene with that on his cab and also with the help of visuals provided by cameras at Mekhri Circle and Cauvery junction.
Nair could have survived if the cab driver had taken him to hospital, Mr. Mirji said.

“In case of accidents, the driver must admit the injured to hospital and then report to a police station,” he added.
