September 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Bengaluru:

A software engineer was allegedly beaten up by a group of construction workers after he objected to the lewd comments they passed on his nine-year-old niece near Salarpuria Green Age Apartments in Bommanahalli on Tuesday.

Adil Nadiadwala (25), a native of Mumbai, had come to the city three months ago to live with his sister.

Mr. Adil suffered multiple fractures and is undergoing treatment at St. John’s hospital. The alleged brutal assault took place around 8 a.m. when Mr. Adil was dropping off his niece to the school bus at the apartment’s main gate. In his complaint, he alleged that around 15 to 20 labourers, who were working near a construction site, passed lewd comments and tried to molest her. In no time, around 40 workers allegedly hit Mr. Adil with iron rods. “One of the apartment residents saw him being beaten up and alerted me. When we reached there, the workers began assaulting my husband too,” said Mr. Adil’s sister Minaz.

She claimed that the police swung into action only after she made a call to their relative, Sajid Nadiadwala, a Bollywood producer, to seek his help.

Based on the complaint, the southeast division police have arrested three persons, including the site supervisor.
