The Vyalikaval police arrested a high school teacher on Tuesday for allegedly caning a class VIII student of a government high school in Malleswaram.

The boy sustained injuries on his head and other parts of the body. He underwent a medical examination before his parents filed a complaint with the police.

According to the police, the teacher, Satish, said in his statement that the boy was not only misbehaving with girls in the class, but was also causing a nuisance by fighting with other students. The victim did not mend his ways despite several warnings, he alleged before admitting to caning the boy.

Parents’ allegations

The parents rubbished the teacher’s claim. They alleged that their son had been subjected to severe punishment many times. They claim to have approached the teacher with a request not to cane the boy, but in vain.

On Monday, the boy was caned for fighting with a senior student in the school. They accused the teacher of bolting the door before caning the boy who was later cautioned against revealing the punishment to his parents. On returning home, the boy informed his parents who approached school authorities. On Tuesday, Satish allegedly beat the boy again. Hence, the parents filed a complaint with the police.
