Hailing from the hilly region of Sringeri in Chikkamagaluru, Vishwanath K.S., an engineering student from the city, knew the problems faced by people to reach remote places.

This inspired him to manufacture an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Pursuing his seventh semester B.E. at the PES Institute of Technology and Management in the city, Vishwanath has now come up with an ATV using the Solid Edge V19 software.

Barring the 180cc engine of TVS Apache and the shock observer of Hero Honda CD 100, the rest of the vehicle was fabricated by Vishwanath on his own, at an automobile workshop in Shivamogga.

To ensure safe ride in tough terrains, he worked hard on the steering mechanism, suspension geometry, steering geometry, length of the handle bar, and the position of shock observers, he said. Vishwanath said it cost him Rs. 70,000 to build the bike.

“The test ride was conducted at Ragigudda hillock near the city and I was happy with the performance. After completing my course, I will establish a firm in Shivamogga city to manufacture more ATVs,” he said.
