The State government has proposed a new agency for integrated mobility management. Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Wednesday announced that he wants to establish the Bengaluru Mobility Management Authority (BMMA) that will function under the Urban Development Department (UDD).
Previous attempts to form a similar agency — the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) to integrate BMTC, BMRCL, BBMP, BDA, and traffic police — still remains on paper.
An official said: “There is no clarity on whether BMMA will replace UMTA, which has got legal provisions. On Wednesday, during the high-level meeting, a presentation was made by experts who suggested formation of BMMA. Maybe the State government is going by the suggestions made during the presentation.”

He added that the BMMA may be authorised to monitor the development of 12 high-density corridors. Sources said that Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd. may be asked to develop these corridors.

Revenue Minister R. Ashok told mediapersons that the white-topping project will continue.
“Wherever white-topping projects have been halted, the BBMP has been asked to complete them.”
