A senior citizen, debilitated by a bad back, died of suffocation when his room was engulfed by smoke caused by a short circuit.
Kadugodi police said R. Ramachandra (72) had a back problem, which prevented him escaping.
The tragedy came to light when his son, Ramesh, went into the room on Tuesday morning and found his father’s body.

The Chennamannakere Achukattu police suspect the death of Kanakambraramma (75), who lived alone in Srinivasa Nagar, to be a murder though some sleeping pills were found near her body.
Neighbours, alarmed by the stench, called the police, who broke into her home and found her body in the bedroom.

There were signs of a struggle, ligature marks on the neck and some valuables were missing from the house.
Police also said her nephew, who often visited her, is absconding.
Exam failure
Shwetha Kesar (30), who failed to clear her chartered accountant exams for the second time, hanged herself in her home in A. Narayanapura near Mahadevapura on Monday.
Her body was discovered by her husband, Vinay Kesar, an aeronautical engineer with National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL), when he came back from work.
Death over divorce
Upset that her husband asked for a divorce and took away their three-year-old daughter, Pramila (26) immolated herself by the G.S. Palya lake in Electronics City, 2nd Phase.
Parappana Agrahara police said Pramila, who worked in the housekeeping department of a paying guest accommodation, married Sudhir, a construction supervisor, around four years ago. But she moved out with her daughter around a year ago.
According to a complaint filed by her cousin, Giri Babu, on Monday, Sudhir sought a divorce and took away their daughter.
A dejected Pramila called him around 1.30 a.m. Tuesday saying she was going to commit suicide. He rushed to her house only to find that she was not there. The police said at around 8.45 a.m., passersby saw a charred body by the G.S. Palya lake.
Toddler drowns
A two-and-a-half-year-old baby girl drowned in a four-foot deep water pit at a construction site on the Government Ayurvedic College premises Tuesday evening.
Uppartpet police said the Almas Daulat was the daughter of Daulat and Athiya, construction labourers working at the site. .
The tragedy came to light when the worried parents could not spot their daughter among the group of children playing nearby.
They started searching and found her body in the pit after half an hour.
