The State Government will consider a proposal to include the Kshatriya Maratha community under Class 2A category, said Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda at a function organised to mark the 385 birth anniversary of Chhatrapathi Shivaji here on Sunday.

Mr. Sadananda Gowda said that the proposal would take shape after review of the community's educational, social and economic status, and the expected benefits if the community was provided the benefit of reservation.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government would consider increasing funding for programmes that would benefit the Backward Classes. “In this year's budget, we will be increasing the spending on Backward Classes to Rs. 1,000 crore from Rs. 750 crore in the previous fiscal,” he said.
