Seven held on theft charge

The Bengaluru Police have arrested seven persons on the charge of stealing Rs. 66 lakh from a cash van in Kalasipalyam police limits recently, and have recovered Rs. 30.23 lakh and the vehicle used to commit the crime.

The arrested are Jamsher (23), K.M. Prabhakar (44), Hemanthkumar (27), Nandakumar (38), Renukappa (42), Murthy (32) and Manjunath (31). Each of them is either a driver or a security officer in a company that carries cash to ATMs. The gang had stolen the vehicle loaded with Rs. 66 lakh in cash when it arrived at the K.R. Market to load cash in an ATM belonging to Central Bank of India. Jamsher, the vehicle driver, had had driven off when the security guard got down to attend the nature’s call while the officials had gone into the ATM to load cash. Meanwhile, the others in the gang followed the van in two different vehicles, and loaded the cash into their vehicles before abandoning the cash van.
