Citizens, along with elected representatives, have an important role to play in ensuring good governance, said Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, president of the Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC).
Speaking at the inauguration of the second batch of B.PAC’s flagship programme, B.CLIP (B.PAC Civic Leadership Incubator Programme) here on Sunday, she stressed on B.PAC’s commitment in ensuring the creation of a talented and capable pool of leaders for the city. Calling the trainees “ambassadors of change,” she said B.PAC endeavoured to create a cadre of leaders for not just the city, but also for state and country.
Mayor B.S. Sathyanarayana called upon the trainees to join the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials and work in Mandur. “The city is gripped with garbage crisis. Working along with the BBMP will reinforce the fact that Bangaloreans are concerned about the communities living around the landfills there,” he said.

Revathy Ashok, B.PAC’s chief executive officer, said that through B.CLIP, they hoped to train at least 1,000 citizens over the next five to seven years. “The leaders we create now will determine the quality of life, growth and sustenance of the city and its citizens in the coming years,” she said.
A release said that the B.CLIP is a nine-month leadership training programme that seeks to inspire, equip and mobilise aspiring citizens to engage in the political process leading up to the municipal corporation elections, thereby helping to improve city governance. It is a combination of both theoretical knowledge and practical on-field work under the guidance of experts in the public policy and urban development. The participants work on one of the four identified project streams – waste management; water, sanitation and lake restoration; safety in ward; revenue augmentation and expenditure management in the wards.
