Deputy Commander (Operations) of NDRF Pradeep K.K. said that they had searched nearly 8 km from the point in Kuruburahalli where the mason went missing. “The decision to call off the operation was taken by the BBMP Chief Engineer,” he said.

However, BBMP Chief Engineer (SWD) Siddegowda said that 150 of its employees would continue the search. "All possible locations along the 30-km stretch of the canal from Jnanabharathi campus to Byramangala lake have been covered," he said.

Mayor G. Padmavathi is expected to call on Shantha Kumar's family on Thursday morning.
