Karnataka DIG (Prisons) D. Roopa has accused her seniors in the Prison Department of accepting a ₹2 crore bribe from AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala to give her preferential treatment at the Bengaluru Central Prison.

In the report submitted on Wednesday to Director-General and Inspector-General of Police R.K. Dutta, she accused DG (Prisons) H.S. Sathyanarayana Rao of accepting the bribe to provide Sasikala VIP treatment. The report alleged that Sasikala was allowed to install a makeshift kitchen in her cell and was provided with an inmate as a cook. Mr. Rao said, “Let the official concerned investigate the matter. The onus is on Ms. Roopa to prove the charges.”

Mr. Rao added that he had earlier issued two memos to Ms. Roopa seeking an explanation for her past conduct, and claimed that she had submitted the report as revenge. “I had visited the prison and inspected it and found no such irregularities or corrupt practices.”
