Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar informed the Council that he will soon write to the Education Ministers of all States asking their opinion on the language policy and RTE.

Replying to members after a discussion on the two Bills, he admitted that the government was sending more than a lakh students from its schools to private schools under RTE every year.

Agreeing that the government was spending nearly Rs. 400 crore on RTE, he said: “I know we are mandating Kannada as the medium of instruction on one hand, and on the other, sending students who would have been in government schools to private schools. I have also spoken to the Union HRD Minister in this regard,” he said.
