In a litmus test for both the Congress and the Janata Dal(S), consensus is yet to emerge between the two parties over its candidature for the Rajarajeshwarinagar Assembly constituency.
Talks between leaders of the coalition partners in the government on fighting elections together in constituency in Bengaluru has so far failed, as the Congress nominee in the constituency declined to support the JD(S) candidate.
Congress’ Muniratna had decided to fight the elections against coalition partner (JD-S) candidate G.H. Ramachandra.

Polling will be held on Monday and counting of votes on May 31.
Meanwhile, the District Election Officer has put in place prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
According to a press release, the prohibitory orders will be in place 48 hours before the polls and 24 hours after the elections.

The DEO has also directed government and aided schools, central and state government offices, and cooperatives in Rajaraheshwarinagar constituency to declare a holiday, as per section 135B of the Representation of People’s Act, 1954. Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner has also put in place prohibition of sale, consumption, procurement and storage of wine, arrack and other intoxicants from 5 p.m. on May 26 to midnight of May 28, and 6 a.m. to midnight on May 31.
The prohibition will be enforced in Yeshwanthpur, RMC Yard, Rajagopalanagar, Peenya, Nandini Layout, Mahalakshmi Layout, Jalahalli, Gangammana Gudi, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Kamakshipalya, Jnanabharathi, Byatarayanapura, Annapoorneshwarinagar and Girinagar police station limits.
