With St. Mark’s Road closed for vehicles on Sunday, traffic snarls were reported on adjoining roads.

The road was closed as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) took up asphalting. The road has been developed under TenderSURE and the work is almost completed.

Though the number of vehicles was comparatively less as it was Sunday, there was pile-up from Anepalya junction to Shooley Circle on Hosur Road and on Museum Road up to Anil Kumble Circle on M.G. Road.

“The road closure was only for a day. Vehicular movement will become normal as the road development work is likely to be completed soon,” a senior police officer said.

Meanwhile, a senior BBMP official told The Hindu that most of the work had been completed on St. Mark’s Road and Vittal Mallya Road. “Asphalting was delayed owing to the heavy rains that lashed the city over the past few weeks. The digging by Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board to connect the sewage pipeline further delayed the work. By the month-end, both the roads will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister,” the official said, and added that only lane markings and installing road signage had to be done.
