Residents of Indiranagar, who have been carrying out a relentless campaign against reckless commercialisation of their neighbourhood, staged a protest against an upcoming microbrewery, Playboy Beer Garden, which they claim has violated several building bylaws and excise norms. They are demanding that civic agencies take punitive action against the pub.
Sneha Nandihal, a resident activist from the area, said she first wrote to the civic authorities about the issue in May 2017. However, no action was taken. “The plan sanction is taken for an amalgamated plot — with two plots, one behind the other. While one plot is on a 100 ft wide road, the other plot is in a residential area that does not allow commercial activity. The microbrewery has also violated the sanctioned plan by not providing adequate parking,” she said.
Residents also pointed out that the microbrewery had come up within 100 metres of the Methodist Church and New Horizon School, violating excise norms. “The Excise Commissioner has to intervene in the case,” said another resident.

A representative of Playboy Beer Garden met the protesters and claimed they had not flouted any rules and that the beer garden did not fall in the 100 m zone.
