The High Court Karnataka on Wednesday stayed the Government Order (GO) asking the medical colleges run by Nitte University and Yenepoya University to surrender 25 per cent of their total seats in the MBBS course to the State government for filling up under the government quota for 2015–16.
The court, however, made it clear that both the deemed universities, based in Mangaluru, would have to surrender 12 and 13 seats respectively, which is 25 per cent of the enhanced number of seats in the MBBS course, to the government quota for 2015–16.
A Division Bench comprising Justice N. Kumar and Justice G. Narendar, which had earlier refused to stay the GO, passed the interim order after it was brought to its notice that several other deemed universities had not contributed any seat to the government quota at all.

The other deemed universities had contributed 25 per cent of the enhanced number of seats and two colleges have not contributed any seat even on the enhanced number of seats.
The government initially asked Nitte and Yenepoya universities to surrender 25 per cent of their total intake to the MBBS course and later it was modified stating that 25 per cent of enhanced number of seats, which were added after the State government granted essential certificate for increasing the number of seats.
However, the government last year issued an order asking both the universities to surrender 25 per cent of seats of their total intake.
