Apart from causing a delay in the match and disappointing many cricket fans on Saturday, the late evening rain also cause momentary panic when a light short-circuited near Gate 9 at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

The lamp was attached to a security post where two policemen were stationed. Nobody was injured.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) S.N. Siddaramappa said the short circuit led to a burst of sparks and flames, which were quickly doused by the rain. The light was later disconnected.

Fire officials said that there was a stand-by fire tender at the stadium itself while the police sources said that they did not need the fire tender.

Fans, who were clustered around the stadium gates, were more bothered about the delay in the IPL match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.
