Puravankara Projects Ltd., a real-estate development firm, on Wednesday alleged before the Karnataka High Court that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is “targeting” them by objecting to their 16-storeyed apartment complex even though it is situated 300 metres away from the defence establishments in C.V. Raman Nagar in Bangalore.
It has pointed out to the court that there were many multi-storeyed complexes much close to the DRDO and allied Defence establishments, but the DRDO had not raised any objection to those buildings for the reason that these buildings could be used by terrorist to attack Defence establishments.
Senior Counsel Uday Holla made these submissions during the hearing of a petition filed by the Ministry of Defence questioning the permission granted by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for construction of 16-storeyed residential apartment complex coming up near DRDO’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CIAR). “There are several multi-storeyed buildings like Bagmane Tech Park, August Park and a 13-storeyed apartment complex near DRDO. Some of these structures are situated at a distance of just about 23 to 79 metres from DRDO/DARE [Defence Avionics Research Establishment],” contended Mr. Holla.

Earlier, senior counsel N. Devhadass, who appeared for the Defence Ministry, contended that terrorist can strike anywhere nowadays and even Parliament was attacked while pointing out that 16-storeyed complex with 600 flats would certainly pose a security threat to the Defence establishments.
