From plants, pots to expert advice, find it all at the horticulture nursery on the UAS-B campus

Gardening enthusiasts in Bengaluru and horticulture farmers have a reason to cheer. They can now get everything related to gardening, from quality planting material, pots and equipment to expert advice, all under one roof.

The University of Agricultural Sciences-Bengaluru and the Nurserymen Cooperative Society Ltd., which is a wing of the State Horticultural Department, have joined hands to set up a horticulture nursery unit at the Agricultural Technological Information Centre (ATIC) on the UAS-B campus.

The nursery, which was inaugurated on Friday by UAS-B Vice-Chancellor H. Shivanna, will house nearly 380 varieties of plants, including indoor, flowering, fruit yielding, ornamental, shrubs and creepers. The nursery will sell the plants at a competitive rate cheaper than the private ones, according to Dr. Shivanna.

The quality of the planting material will be continuously monitored as all plants will carry a number code which will help trace the origin of the plant material to the original supplier, said Parashivamurthy, Additional Director of the Horticulture Department.

He explained that the planting material was being supplied by the members of the Nurserymen Cooperative Society.

“Even if the consumers order plant varieties which are not listed by us, we will get them within three to four days,” he said. UAS-B extension director K. Jagadishwara explained that the nursery will take care of aesthetic aspects, including landscaping. It will also focus on the requirements of terrace gardens. They would put interested consumers onto garden consultants too.
