Police step up security measures

May 20, 2013 08:49 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:46 pm IST - Bangalore:

The bomb blasts at the Boston Marathon recently prompted the Bangalore Police to step up all security measures at the TCS World 10K here on Sunday.

“After the incident at the Boston Marathon, we decided to increase the security in and around the venue, following the instructions from the Commissioner. Armed guards were positioned at all gates of the Sree Kanteerava Stadium the night before the race. This was done so that there was no opportunity for miscreants to leave behind dangerous items at the venue. Today, everyone was frisked before entry, even the athletes,” a police officer said.

The officer added that around 700 police personnel were present to ensure the smooth progress of the event. The traffic police, meanwhile, deployed 600 of their men, primarily to divert the flow of vehicles. The roads used for the race — Cubbon Road, Kasturba Road, Ulsoor Road and Queen’s Road — were either fully or partly closed.
