Pillion rider dies under lorry’s wheels

A woman was killed on the spot and her husband sustained injuries when a lorry knocked down their scooter on the Hebbal ring road on Wednesday.

Ramamani (53) was riding pillion with her husband Somayaji, a retired teacher. The couple was returning home after visiting relatives, the police said.

When the couple reached near Manyata Tech Park, the lorry knocked down their scooter. While Somayaji fell on the safer side of the road and fractured his legs, Ramamani came under the wheels.

Driver arrested

The Hebbal traffic police arrested the lorry driver and seized the lorry. They booked the driver for causing death due to negligence.

The couple’s son is abroad and the family is waiting for him to arrive.
