Parents of ‘stillborn’ allege medical negligence

June 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

Relatives of a 26-year-old patient, Yasmeen Taj, who allegedly delivered a stillborn through C-section at the State-run Vani Vilas Hospital on Thursday alleged that the doctors had replaced her baby with a stillborn.

The relatives, one of whom claimed to be a former staff nurse of Victoria Hospital, staged a protest in front of the hospital demanding action against the doctors. They also filed a complaint with the Victoria Hospital police alleging that the doctors had duped them.

In his complaint to the police, Ms. Yasmeen’s husband alleged that the hospital authorities had replaced their baby with a stillborn. He demanded a DNA test before they accept the body of the baby. The family has also alleged negligence on the part of the hospital authorities.

However, in-charge Medical Superintendent at Vani Vilas Asha Benakappa denied the charges and said the patient had already developed complications when she was brought in at 12.05 am on Thursday. Moreover, the patient’s husband, who initially refused to sign the consent papers for the C-section, signed the form only at 9.35 am.
