Parameshwara bats for developing new city

Published - January 17, 2019 12:45 am IST - Bengaluru

Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara on Wednesday said there were plans to build a new city, which will have infrastructure on a par with other metros in the world.

He was speaking at the ‘Karnataka Government and IT Industry: A dialogue for future and continued engagement to strengthen the eco-system’, which saw the participation of industry leaders from Information Technology and Bio Technology.

The idea of a twin city was in response to suggestions from participants for the need to address Bengaluru’s growing population and the strain on its resources. Dr. Parameshwara, who also holds the additional charge of IT-BT, Science and Technology Ministries and is the Bengaluru Development minister, sought ideas from industry leaders to prepare a plan for such a new city. However, he did not elaborate on its location.

He added that ₹50,000 crore will be spent on connectivity and that Metro Phase 2, which will be completed in a few years, will cater to 20 lakh people every day.
