It is believed to be at the insistence of political leaders

Weathering public protests against road widening, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has proposed to widen 10 roads across the city. The budget for the year 2011-2012 has earmarked Rs. 55 crore for the purpose.

Sources pointed out that this work has been taken up to create signal-free corridors and wider stretches.

However, what has raised eyebrows is the inclusion of two new roads, believed to be at the insistence of political leaders. The widening of the road from Abbigere to Lakshmipura Road seems to have been included to help Mayor Sharadamma while the stretch between Chikkabanavara to Ganigarahalli has been proposed in the budget to please Dasarahalli MLA Muniraju, BBMP sources said. Both the roads are in Dasarahalli Assembly Constituency. The other roads are Mission Road, Begur Road, Tannery Road, Bannerghatta Road, Hennur Ring Road to Kannur Ring Road, Vidyaranyapura Road, Halagevaderahalli to Pantarpalya and Thindlu Road.
