By the end of this December, as many as 2,750 CCTV cameras will be installed across the city.
Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy, while inaugurating a police station at Gurappanapalya on Sunday, announced that each ward would be granted ₹10 lakh to install the cameras at strategic locations.
The cameras would be connected to the jurisdictional police station to monitor round the clock. “This will not only help the police monitor law and order but also with investigation of cases,” he said.

At present, the city traffic police have around 720 CCTV enforcement cameras and rely on over five lakh private cameras installed across the city. Reacting to the Opposition party’s remark on safety of women and children, Mr. Reddy said compared with other metro cities, Bengaluru was safer.
“The Police Department is sensitised to deal with the complaints pertaining to women and children issues and take strict action. Apart from this, security cover has been enhanced around schools and colleges to ensure safety of women.
Mr. Reddy has directed the police and RTO officials to crack down on vehicles with defective number plates, which were hampering police investigations. He noted that designations and other text on the plates had resulted in a reduction in the actual size of the numbers.
