‘Opposition’s protests linked to BBMP polls’

May 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - BENGALURU:

Veteran freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy on Wednesday alleged that the Opposition parties were shedding crocodile tears over the demolition of houses on lakebeds with an eye on the forthcoming elections to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.

He wondered why they did not resist when thousands of acres of government land were cleared of encroachments in other districts. He appealed to them to support the government in clearing encroachments on lakebeds and government lands.

Mr. Doreswamy appealed to the government to shelve the plan to build a mechanised mega slaughterhouse on about 40 acres in Harohalli in Ramanagaram district, his native place. He pointed out that villagers were against the project.

Instead, he suggested, the government should consider building small slaughter houses in different parts of Bengaluru. He submitted a memorandum in this regard to Law Minister T. B. Jayachandra and Bengaluru City in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
