Saturday’s incident is not the first for the K.G. Nagar police station.

In April 2013, a 53-year-old man killed himself after being repeatedly questioned by the police in connection with a murder. The man, Manjunath, owned a provision store, which was opposite the building where a 27-year-old woman, Manasa, was murdered in March 2013. Police pestered him saying it was not possible that he could have missed the killer.

Manjunath’s claims that he did not see anything unusual went unheeded. He was summoned to the police station for a month and allegedly even beaten up. Unable to take the harassment, he consumed poison.
